QUICK TIP: Once Is Enough for CashTrac

PG_Calc_Quick_Tip Some calculation functions in GiftWrap can be run multiple times without ill effects, but CashTrac is not one of them. Located in the Actions menu, the CashTrac CGA Market Values function computes and records new market values as of a specified date for all gift annuities in the selected gift annuity pool.

You input the balance of the annuity account and CashTrac calculates a new market value for each gift by adjusting each gift’s previous market value based on payments the gift has made and the investment return the gift’s assets have earned between valuation dates. Upon completion of the routine, a new market value is saved in each gift screen.

The computation is complex and cumulative, so if CashTrac is run more than once for a given valuation period, the resulting market values will be inaccurate. If this has occurred, market values need to be rolled back to a valid starting point and brought forward valuation period by valuation period. Running the CashTrac routine at irregular intervals can also produce unpredictable results. The recommended approach is to update your CGA CashTrac market values quarterly at the end of each calendar quarter. Watch for more on CashTrac CGA Market Values in upcoming issues of the eRate newsletter.

AHA Enjoys the Benefits of Its
American_Heart_AssocCustom PGM Gift Annuity Agreements

The American Heart Association’s Charitable Estate Planning Department has for many years used PG Calc’s Planned Giving Manager (PGM) to create the AHA’s charitable gift annuity agreements. A number of years ago, the AHA asked PG Calc to create a custom version of the PGM agreements that would include the AHA’s preferred language in select spots.

Sherry Loera, Project Coordinator for the AHA’s Charitable Estate Planning Department comments, “There was a time prior to having the customized agreements that creating agreements out of PGM wasn’t quite so quick and simple. In fact, while PGM could produce standard agreements, there were many changes we had to make to each new one.

“When we first started producing agreements using the customized agreements created for us by Bill Laskin at PG Calc, we instantly realized how much time we were going to save creating them. In addition, we felt more at ease knowing our agreements would automatically include all of each state’s mandatory guidelines. Bill recently updated our customized gift annuity agreements to include the latest changes for the State of Wisconsin.”

PG Calc has created hundreds of custom agreements and other narratives for PGM clients over the years that help them do their work more accurately and efficiently. If there is a PGM standard narrative that you would like customized for your organization, or a completely new document that you would like to produce from PGM, such as an internal gift memo or a thank you letter, please contact Bill Laskin at bill@pgcalc.com or 888-497-4970.
