Summer Planned Giving Housekeeping

Housekeeping_Photo-by_Lucas-Van-Oort-unsplash

For many shops, particularly those with a June 30th fiscal year, fundraising activity hits a slump in the dog days of summer. Your donors are taking hard-earned vacations or may even be away at a second home for the summer, making them hard to reach. Hopefully your staff is using some vacation time to rest and recharge.

If you’re experiencing a lull in proposal drafting and donor visits in July and August, but your finance team has not yet roped you into annual reporting responsibilities, here is some PG housekeeping that can be attended to in this quiet time.

Quick Tip: Picking a Mortality Table in PGM Anywhere

The latest release of PGM Anywhere lets you perform deduction and life interest calculations using the 2000CM or 2010CM mortality table. We added this capability in response to proposed regulations issued by the IRS, as detailed in the next article.

To pick the mortality table in PGM Anywhere:

  1. Open Date – Lives -Term.
  2. Enter a gift date of 1/1/2021 or later.
  3. Choose an IRS discount rate for January 2021 or later.
  4. Choose Lives or Lives & fixed term as the gift term.
  5. Choose the IRS mortality table, 2000CM or 2010CM, at the bottom of the window.

In PGM desktop, you can choose the IRS mortality table in the Gift Date – IRS Discount Rate window.

2010CM Mortality Table Added to PGM Anywhere and PGM Desktop

On June 22, we announced our second update of PGM Anywhere and PGM desktop in three weeks. This latest update added the new 2010CM mortality table found in proposed regulations issued by the IRS in early May. Until the IRS issues final regulations, donors can use 2000CM or 2010CM to compute deductions and life interests for gifts made on or after January 1, 2021. See our blog post for details on the new 2010CM mortality table and when you might choose it rather than 2000CM. The PGM Anywhere update also moved it closer to compliance with all WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility criteria. We expect to finish that job before the end of the year.

If you are still using PGM desktop, you need to install PGM 7.6 to have access to 2010CM and several other enhancements. Please contact Client Services at support@pgcalc.com or 888-474-2252 if you need assistance.

New York State 1100x1100

From the Blog: Good News About New York Maximum Annuity Rates for Q3 2022

There is good news for charities that issue annuities in New York! The maximum annuity rates allowed by New York for gift annuities issued to a New York donor in the third quarter of 2022 increased significantly from their second quarter levels. They increased enough, in fact, that New York’s maximum single-life annuity rates for Q3 2022 are higher than the corresponding ACGA rates for all male and female ages, even though the ACGA suggested maximum rates increased as of July 1. This means charities can offer the ACGA rates to New York donors of single-life annuities funded from July 1, 2022 to September 30, 2022, regardless of the annuitant’s age and gender.

However, the story is less rosy for deferred gift annuities. We find that there still are some one-life and two-life deferred annuities where New York’s maximum rate is lower than the ACGA rate.

Here’s a Cure for the Summertime Blues: Online Trainings

They’re even better than marching band camp! PG Calc is offering two unique online training sessions this summer:

Planned Giving by the Numbers, July 20-21

This offering helps the gift planning professional to build confidence by gaining fuller understanding of the unique numbers involved in planned giving. This class also helps the gift planner to answer some of the toughest proposal and advisor questions.

Lead Trust School, August 9-10

We will work through examples of lead trust variations that demonstrate which type of lead trust makes sense, given a donor’s goals and circumstances. The class is designed for experienced gift planners, estate planners, and trust officers who want to strengthen their understanding of lead trusts.

Both classes assume a basic understanding of standard gift planning vehicles, and no advance preparation is necessary. Either of these classes – or both – will surely add some sparkle to your summer!

Dawn Smith at Davidson College Appreciates Working with PG Calc's Julie Goldenberg Hay on CGA State Registrations

“I don’t know what I would have done without Julie Goldenberg Hay, PG Calc’s State Registration Consultant, to guide me through the very cumbersome state registration process. Julie is always there to answer my questions and give me detailed information on next steps. I couldn’t have gotten this far without her.”
