IRS DISCOUNT RATE: February 1.6%

A Practical Approach to Receiving IRA Bequest Distributions

Collecting the funds, when a donor makes a charity the beneficiary of an IRA, can be challenging. There has been much discussion about IRA administrators who, with a few exceptions, require charitable beneficiaries to establish an IRA account to receive a distribution from the donor’s IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other qualified plan.

Quick Tip: Review Your GiftCalcs Settings

GiftCalcs is PG Calc’s online planned gift calculator that our clients include on their websites so that visitors to their sites can explore the benefits of a planned gift themselves. The start of a new year is a good time to review whether there have been any changes in your program that might affect your organization’s GiftCalcs settings. Settings most likely to be affected include:

  • Minimum or maximum gift amounts for a specific gift type.
  • Minimum or maximum beneficiary ages for a specific gift type.
  • Maximum payout rate for a specific gift type.
  • Highest return of the last 3 years or current payout rate to quote for a pooled income fund.
  • Color or font selections.
  • Contact information.

If you would like to make changes to these or any other GiftCalcs settings, please contact Jen Wickham at jwickham@pgcalc.com or call 888-474-2252 and ask for Jen.

Read Andrew Palmer's Blog Post: Donor Surveys Show You Care

Organizations send donor surveys for many different reasons. Often, they are used to fill some holes in your database, for stewardship, or for lead generation. These are all good reasons, but I’ve got an even better one: send a donor survey to show you care about your supporters, just as much as they care about your mission. Read the blog post...

2022 Webinars and Online Training Sessions Will Provide Robust Online Education

The pandemic keeps chugging along, and PG Calc will continue to offer monthly educational webinars on gift planning topics in 2022. They are a great way to help our clients become better gift planners. This has been especially true while in-person learning opportunities continue to be suspended. All our webinars include a PDF of the slides and a paper so that attendees have materials they can refer to anytime. During the pandemic, all attendees also get unlimited replays of the webinar to review themselves and share with colleagues for 60 days after the live session. Learn about or register for any of our 2022 webinars. Register for the whole series and save $285!

We will also continue to offer our full range of online software training sessions. We have tentatively scheduled our first in-person sessions since the start of the pandemic for May in Boston and Costa Mesa, CA. We hope public health conditions will allow us to follow through on conducting them in person rather than online. And don’t forget our free classes on making the transition from PGM desktop to PGM Anywhere. We hope you will consider attending one or more of our online training sessions in 2022! New York Maximum Annuity Rates for Q1 2022

Although New York has not yet published its table of one-life maximum annuity rates for gift annuities issued to New York donors in Q1 of 2022, we do know that the new rates will be based on the same interest rate assumptions New York used in Q2 of 2021 for ages 90 and below. Hence, we expect that for annuities issued in Q1 2022 the New York maximum rates will be lower than the ACGA suggested maximum rates for male ages 51-84 and female ages 50-87. If you have a New York donor who wants to fund a one-life annuity for someone in either of these groups, you will need to offer an annuity rate lower than the ACGA rate. New York’s rate tables can be found here. Click the “Present Value of Immediate Annuities . . .” link on this page to view the latest tables. To determine the maximum allowable annuity rate for a specific annuitant age and gender, divide the maximum income shown for the age and gender in question by 10. We expect the table for Q1 2022 to be added shortly.

If you are working with a New York donor who wishes to fund a two-life immediate gift annuity, or a one-life or two-life deferred gift annuity, contact us. We will determine the maximum annuity rate you can offer your donor. Go here to learn more about our New York Rate Calculations Service or to submit a calculation request form.

Check Out Our New Website

If you haven’t seen the new PG Calc website yet, please check it out! One of the most important changes to the site is the clear delineation of our four lines of business. We were happy to take feedback from many clients who said “we didn’t know PG Calc did that” and have used color and navigation to show off our Marketing ServicesGift Illustrations, Gift Administration, and Consulting lines. One of the best ways to visualize all the products we have in these lines can be found on one of our newer pages, PG Calc and Planned Giving. As always you can check out and register for all our events (like webinars and training), access our Client Services (including logins for PGM Anywhere, GiftWrap, and Bequest Manager), and much more. Our homepage has tiles to promote “What’s New,” and we hope you’ll visit often.

PGM Anywhere and PGM Desktop Updated with Indexed Tax Tables for 2022

On January 14, we sent an email to all PGM Anywhere and PGM desktop users announcing that we had updated these applications with the indexed federal tax tables for 2022. In the case of PGM Anywhere, the only tax table affected was the federal income tax table for estates and trusts, which is used to compute lead trust income taxes. In PGM desktop, we updated federal tax tables used to compute federal income tax for non-grantor lead trusts and federal gift, estate, and generation skipping tax, where applicable, in testamentary, estate plan, and lead trust models.

Detailed PGM Anywhere release notes are available from a link on the PGM Anywhere login screen. A detailed summary of changes in PGM desktop are available from a link on the PGM 7.5G download page.

Contact PG Calc Client Services at support@pgcalc.com or 888-474-2252 if you have any questions about these updates.

PG Calc and COVID

As with many businesses and non-profits, we returned to work at the end of last summer using a hybrid model to optimize the balance needed for our employees and PG Calc. Unfortunately, that was interrupted by Omicron when our primary location of Massachusetts experienced a spike even bigger than the ones before. We are looking forward to returning to the office soon after this spike settles down and hope that we can re-implement our new routine shortly. Our goal of legendary customer service and excellent work has not changed, and indeed we have become stronger through the pandemic about ensuring the success of our clients.
