Quick Tip: Entering Terms in PGM Anywhere

The next release of PGM Anywhere (due out shortly after Labor Day) can perform calculations for up to ten lives and for combinations of up to ten lives and a fixed term of years. These capabilities are a major expansion from the previous limit of up to two lives or a fixed term of whole years. Here’s how to produce illustrations using any of the new term options.

To start, click Date – Lives – Term.

One to ten lives:

1. Choose Gift term = Lives
2. To enter more than two ages or birth dates, click the below the last age/birth date field to add another age/birth date field. Repeat as needed, then enter the ages/birth dates.

Fixed number of years:

1. Choose Gift term = Fixed term.
2. Choose whether to enter the fixed term as a number of years or a date the term ends.
3. Enter the number of years or the date fixed term ends.

Combination of lives and fixed term:

1. Choose Gift term = Lives & fixed term.
2. Choose Term type = Fixed term of lives, whichever is shorter, Fixed term of lives, whichever is longer, or Lives, then shorter of fixed term or lives.
3. If you choose Lives, then shorter of fixed term or lives, enter first the ages/birth dates of the beneficiaries who will receive payments first. Then, enter the number of the first age/birth date that will be concurrent with the fixed term. For example, if payments will be for the life of the donor and then for the shorter of her two children’s lives or ten years, enter the donor’s age/birth date first and enter “2” as the “Age # to which fixed term first applies.”
